the reading room ::e-newsletter #30

Hi all,

Our fundraising campaign is going well so far with over 25% of our target acheived! But we only have 3/4 of the allocated time left, so we still need your support. Your help will go directly to improve the reading room's lighting for reading and for exhibitions and hopefully make it a wireless hotspot. We'd love it if you could spread the word amongst your networks and friends. (http://www.pozible.com/index.php/archive/index/1010/description/0/0)

Last Thursday we opened a beautiful photographic exhibition by Natasha Lee. Natasha's work focusses on Human Rights, in particular gender equality and the rights of women in Turkey. The exhibition is still up until the end of the month, so please come down and take a look.

Our exhibition calendar is filling up with shows booked in for July (more info soon), August (Meg Cowell - more info soon), Septemebr & October. If you are interested in exhibiting or know someone who could be, please get in touch.

For the most up-to-date info check the blog, or the facebook group, or join the mailing list! Email readingroom.adelaide@gmail.com with 'subscribe' in the subject line. Oh and we tweet now.

Here's what's coming up at the reading room...

We host resident poet, Kathryn Hummel
Kathryn will be in the reading roomfrom 4pm - 6pm each Friday. She'll be collaborating with visitors and regulars to the reading room, working to create a perforamcne based on what has been created during her residency.
Here's a little info about her:
Having spent several years travelling, working and writing overseas, Kathryn Hummel, a native of Adelaide, is now a PhD candidate at the University of South Australia. Currently she is writing and researching autoethnography, drawing on her experiences of life in Bangladesh, and is in the process of developing a new genre of collaborative prose-poem, inspired by the work of Drik Picture Library and the South Asian Institute of Photography, Pathshala. As well as her poetry, Kathryn’s fiction and non-fiction, popular and academic writing has been published in Australia, the US, Nepal, Bangladesh, and India. A shameless cafe crawler, Kathryn enjoys all types of tea and takes her coffee with milk and one sugar.

Some afternoon tea, some junky yarn and some chunky needles. Need to aquire crafty materials? The Radical Crafters'll have our usual big-stash-o-yarn up for grabs, plus needles and hooks for loan. Don't know how to knit or crochet? Never fear, they can teach you!
